Over the summer I took a vacation trip to Cancun. I went with my girlfriend, her cousin and his girlfriend. The hotel that we stayed at had a package deal, where you could choose an excursion to go on. We chose to take a ferry to this little island off the coast of Cancun. When we first got to the island we rented a golf cart to go exploring. The island wasn’t what we were expecting. We were expecting it to be built up for tourism, but it was extremely run down and most parts seemed very sketchy. After driving the golf cart around the island we thought it would be best to go back to the docks where the ferry was, and wait there until we boated to the aquarium part of the island.
Once we got the aquarium part of the island there were huge netted cages in the ocean where there were dolphins, sharks, stingrays and even walrus. We could only pick one to swim with, so we decided to swim with the sharks. It was something that I had never done before, so it was very exciting. I wasn’t scared because they had told us the sharks were nurse sharks that didn’t have any teeth, and the stingrays in the cage didn’t have any stingers. They gave us these huge goggles and life jackets to wear when we went in the cage. It was so fascinating to go under water and see these sharks and stingrays so close us. One of the things that are on my bucket list is to go scuba diving out in the ocean with species like sharks and stingrays.
